Buttermilk or Sour Milk

| Thoroughly mix together the sugar, butter, margarine, egg yolks, set aside.. Sift together the flour nutmeg, mace, cinnamon, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar. Add the buttermilk or sour milk to the sifted ingredients. Add the mixture that had been set aside to the batter. Roll on lightly floured board to 1/2 inch thick. Knead and let stand for 20 minutes. Cut with floured doughtnut cutter. Drop into deep hot fat, turn when they are browned sufficiently, brown both sides. Drain on absorbent paper. | ||||
